COVID-19 delayed several anime series set to air in 2020, leaving many fans disappointed. 2021 appears promising with new seasons for returning series and new anime adaptations.
“The Promised Neverland” Season Two
Orphans live happily with their caretaker until they uncover a deep secret about their orphanage. After discovering the caretaker’s true intentions, the main characters plan an escape.
“There aren’t that many good thrillers out there,” sophomore Nicholas Kong said. “However, ‘The Promised Neverland’ was really good. The last season left off on a cliffhanger, so I’m really excited to see what comes next.”
“The Promised Neverland” currently airs every Thursday. Season one remained faithful to the manga, but viewers should expect more original content in season two. This anime is a must-watch for psychological thriller fans.
“Horimiya” Season One
At first glance the lead protagonist of “Horimiya” may appear as a social butterfly, but the anime reveals another side of her. By chance she encounters a classmate outside of school, and a love story blossoms as they spend more time together.
“I started reading the ‘Horimiya’ manga in seventh grade, so when I heard about the adaptation, I was freaking out,” junior Alexis Ngo said. “Since so many sports and action anime series are coming out in 2021, it’s nice to see a slice-of-life romance too.”
Coming out every Saturday, viewers can look forward to colorful visuals and relatable content. “Horimiya’’ is perfect for anyone searching for a light-hearted romantic comedy.
“Attack on Titan” Season Four
In a world where man-eating titans threaten humankind, the remains of humanity find shelter within cities surrounded by massive walls. After witnessing his mother’s death at the hands of a titan, a 10-year-old boy promises to eradicate all titans and sets off on a vengeful journey.
“I really like MAPPA studio’s work,” freshman Emily Hang said. “My favorite part of ‘Attack on Titan’ is the animation of the fighting scenes, so I hope the animation quality of season four is consistent with its previous seasons despite the studio change from Wit Studio to MAPPA.”
MAPPA controversially utilized CGI to speed up the release date but even so, be prepared for another season of fast-paced action and intense fighting scenes airing every Sunday.
“Fruits Basket” Season Three
A teenage girl moves into the Sohma family household following her mother’s death and meets two love interests. She soon discovers that if an outsider hugs a family member of the opposite gender, they will transform into Chinese Zodiac animals.
Anyone who loves romance will enjoy the complex love story and plot twists in the third season of “Fruits Basket,” coming out in April.
