Ramrodders encourage fundraising for student athletes

Ramrodders Booster Club organized a 5K/10K fundraiser, Rams on the Run, in efforts to peel TCHS students away from their screens and raise money for student athletes. From Nov. 20 until Jan. 3, TCHS students, friends and families participate in the event by running, walking or biking remotely. Anyone is eligible to participate, they can compete at home, parks or any outdoor space as long as they follow social distancing guidelines.

“I encourage whoever’s reading this to give it a try,” freshman Elizabeth Hung said. “I think Ramrodders should continue doing these events because it connects the community even if we aren’t physically next to each other to do the race.” Applicants can register on the Ramrodders website. The registration fee is $10 and a confirmation email will appear in their inbox. The applicants confirm their respective times towards the end of the race. Entries have the chance to win prizes and Ramrodders announce the winners in their eNewsletter.

“I think the success of this fundraiser will change our school’s way of fundraising,” senior Kristen Mok said. “I feel like we’ve been doing things the same way for a while and if all goes well, I think we’ll start to get more creative with how we raise money both virtually and in person.”

The cost of the donation ranges from $10 to $100 and donations of $20 or more include an event T-shirt. Donators have the option to give 50% of their donation towards any TCHS sport of their choice. A person does not have to participate to donate money.

“The teams really benefit because they get money for their programs,” Ramrodders vice president Missy Augustyn said. “I think it is good to help the student athletes for our school especially under these circumstances.”

Ramrodder Booster Club encourages participants to post pictures of themselves participating in the event on any form of social media using the #RamsontheRun. Ramrodder may repost the photo on their eNewsletter or their social media.

“I am hoping this becomes a tradition,” Ramrodders president Teresa Huang said. “I don’t think TCHS has done something like this before, so I hope to do more events where we can get our high school students to be more involved and active.”
