City Council declared a local emergency during a special meeting on Friday, March 13, giving the council more flexibility when seeking aid from state and federal agencies, enforcing regulations and obtaining supplies. City Manager Bryan Cook became Director of Emergency Services as well.

There is one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Temple City as of March 23.

“The impact [of the local emergency] on the community will not be immediate,” City of Temple City Mayor Tom Chavez said. “It puts us in the position of helping them economically and for their personal protection if needed in the future.”

City buildings such as City Hall and Live Oak Community Center are closed to the public, but City Hall staff is still on site to answer questions via emails and phone calls. The staff is also looking to provide daily updates on Temple City’s website, www.ci.temple-city.ca.us

City Hall staff suspended enforcement for overnight parking and street sweeping, and voided all March 17 parking tickets.

The Sheriff’s Department also increased control in commercial areas such as grocery stores. If there is someone who is facing challenges at home, you may contact Sergeant Ronald Miranda at (626) 285-7171.

Several markets reserved shopping hours for seniors, such as Super A Foods from 7-8 a.m. and Numero Unos from 9-10 a.m, which are both located on Rosemead Boulevard.
