Due to sudden growth in the number of students in Advanced Sports Medicine, the school hired Steve Allyn and Adam Roth, who are both professors at Pasadena City College. Anthony Garcia, who formerly taught the class, now only teaches regular Sports Medicine.
Students taking the course participate in the dual enrollment system, where they learn from college professors and receive college credit for the class.
The foreign language department selected Maria Henderson to teach Spanish 1 and 2 after an extensive selection process, filling in Kristy Kenderes’s vacancy starting the week of Sept. 23.
“I feel fortunate to be part of TCHS,” Henderson said. “I’m happy knowing that the students are proactive, respectful and have positive attitudes.”
After former Calculus teacher Nancy Bulgin’s retirement, math teacher Nate Slaymaker assumed the role as math department chairperson. His main roles for the position include leading department meetings and acting as a liaison between teachers and the administration.
“A lot of it is new for me,” Slaymaker said. “I’m looking forward to just making sure all the teachers in our department feel like they are comfortable and that they have all their needs met.”
Current AP Art History teacher Lisa Kidd assumed the role of chairperson in the Career and Technical Education department. Her responsibilities include managing funds for the classes and working with the administration.
The program offers classes that help students acquire skills related to their desired career paths. Kidd plans to expand the program by including more classes in the high school.
“We’re trying to take steps to better inform students about the CTE pathway, which is helpful when students apply to college and careers,” Kidd said. “We also want to boost our enrollment in Skills USA and that competitive field because it’s a really great program that we’ve had a lot of success in.”
