As the sun rises, Christian Club members smile as they gather around the flagpole. They close their eyes and lightly bow down their heads to pray together.
“See You at the Pole” was one of Christian Club’s events. The club has been a part of this campus for about 19 years, holding different events and meetings every Monday to share their faith.
“Like any good service club, the Christian Club provides a place where students can meet, share common experiences, grow together as a community and serve others around them,” Engineering Design teacher and Christian Club Adviser Mr. David Dickie said. “We hope that even staff can benefit from seeing students who are growing as caring individuals in a group that is committed to values based on God’s word, the Bible.”
Christian Club is preparing for an Outreach week from April 29 to May 3, where speakers, performances and members will share their testimonies.
“I love being a part of the club’s environment where I can always learn more about my faith and God as our Father,” Junior Angela Hsu said. “I’d definitely say that I’ve learned my identity is not rooted in what other people may think and say about me, but I only need to know that I am precious in God’s eyes.”
In one annual tradition, “Operation Christmas Child,” club members collect shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies and other necessities to show the families that they are being cared for. The purpose is to promote fellowship amongst the community to help the less privileged.
Overall, Christian Club’s goal is to continue to encourage others to learn to serve God and spread their faith Christian faith on campus.
“We felt that we needed to start the club to provide those who had questions, were curious, or those trying to figuring out their own spiritual lives,” Christian Club President Senior Tony Guo said. “So this being an opportunity to give members in our club to practice leadership by heading counsels to make these events possible and allow our club to grow as a family.”
