The phrase “breaking boundaries” often seems difficult and
almost impossible to achieve for everyday people. Most people
associate the phrase with athletes, Nobel Prize winners or people
who do amazing things in society.
However, I’m here to tell you that “breaking boundaries” does
not have to be humongous or ground breaking. It can be catered to
you as an individual. As long as you are proud of your achievements or overcome
something you never would have thought you would, that is breaking boundaries.
As for me, I’ve never done anything newsworthy or ground breaking; I‘ve
never cured cancer or created world peace, but there have been moments where
I’ve surprised myself and broken my own boundaries. To most athletes, regularly
running two miles in 20 minutes is nothing, laughable even, but recently, I have
been actively improving my running skills.
Back when I was a basketball player, I was never the best runner, and when I
played tennis, running two miles seemed impossible. However, I was determined
to break my boundary, and now, although cross country runners would still laugh
at me, I improved my running. Frankly, I don’t care if athletes scoff at my ability;
I am proud of myself and that’s all that matters. I’ve overcome something I never
thought I could do, physically and mentally, and now running has become a part
of my lifestyle.
Breaking boundaries can be big or small, it can even be as small as succeeding
in baking macarons because lord knows how hard that is. As long as you are proud
of yourself and overcome a barrier you thought you could never surpass, that is
breaking barriers.
If you pass a class you truly thought you were going to fail, surprise! You broke
your own boundary. Don’t be intimidated by the people who do miraculous things
in society. Yes, they are amazing if they find a cure for AIDS, but listen, every
achievement you make is just as special because you were able to overcome your
own obstacle.
