Boys Volleyball
The Boys Varsity Volleyball team, consisting of 12 athletes with a mixture of new and returning members, recently began their new season.
They practice in the gym every week day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., along with members of the Girls Varsity Volleyball team. The athletes continually practice through different types of drills which target different techniques.
“Our defense is good, as is our digging and passing,” Head Coach Eric Chin said. “However, it’s still important for the team to continue practicing every single day.”
The team’s next game is on Feb. 25 against the Alhambra Moors at 3:30 p.m. After that, they will participate in a game against the Montebello Oilers. The group will compete in around two games every week until April, the end of the regular season.
Track and Field
Under the new leadership of Coach Grant Rowe, the Track and Field team is preparing for their new season with daily practices. From 2:15 p.m. to 5 p.m., the athletes train on North Field, although rainy weather causes them to relocate to the lunch shelter.
Each athlete has a training routine based on which events they participate in. This year, around 100 members are a part of Track and Field.
“The team has been doing well, especially since the weather has been interfering with practices,” Coach Rowe said. “I don’t know what to expect from them, but I’m excited.”
The team’s first competition was on Feb. 16 at Arcadia High School. Starting at 10 a.m, the group competed in sprint racing, hurdle racing, and other events.
Junior Clarissa Hong won first place in the Varsity Girls 3200 meter run with a time of 12:45.72. Freshman Jace Chong placed first in the Frosh/Soph 110 meter Hurdles with a time of 19.01.
Track and Field will participate in around eight to 10 competitions this season and more if the team advances to CIF.
