When Junior Kaylee Chandra first stepped foot into TCHS, she felt a lack of confidence and was at a loss. However, Chandra soon found her confidence through her striking articles of clothing after being inspired by her older sister, who Chandra admires for her sense of fashion.
“Fashion has given me confidence, and that’s what I struggled with since freshman year,” Chandra said. “But I found what I feel comfortable wearing everyday, and that just made me feel less judged when I go to school.”
Chandra encourages others to express themselves through fashion. In the photo above, she is sporting a white tank top from Brandy Melville, a plaid skirt from an online inventory and white Birkenstocks from Nordstrom. The outfit is perfect for warm weather, being light and easy to move in. The Birkenstocks provide comfort and are currently popular with people of all ages.
“You think people are going to judge,” Chandra said. “But you should just ignore them, because high school is a once in a lifetime thing, so you should go all out when you can.”
Freshman Anderson Huynh aims to make his style unique by finding a presentable, comfortable and laid back style. He receives inspiration from instagrammer @pyperbleu and her colorful yet neutral and toned down 80s vibes.
In seventh and eighth grade, Huynh dreaded going to school, putting on whatever he found in his closet. However, he soon began to see fashion as a source of empowerment, making him a stronger person.
“Fashion is something that makes you feel better about yourself,” Huynh said. “It’s a way you can express yourself, like your emotions, how you’re feeling that day, and for me, it’s mostly comfort. Fashion is one of those things I can incorporate into my everyday wear, so that’s really exciting.”
In the outfit above, Huynh sports a sweatshirt from Seattle, Washington and black shorts from Nike, pulling the look together with a pair of white Vans. The entire outfit together is best described as comfortable, yet still stylish, giving off a casual vibe.
