We, Kaiya and Emily, are writing a column together! As Rampage leadership, we work together to run the publication. Working in Rampage has taught us how to work together with not just each other, but with our whole staff.
As Editor-in-Chief, I’m technically in charge of everything, but I rely on lots of other people to get the paper done.
As a page editor, I didn’t use InDesign, the Adobe application that we use to format the paper. Thus, my main job is editing the articles to make sure Rampage is full of high-quality writing. The formatting is mostly up to Emily because she understands the program!
I also supervise our online content, like our Youtube videos and photos of the week. My last responsibility is representing Rampage, from meeting with administrators to signing paperwork.
As Production Editor, the head of design, my job is to oversee the design aspects of the publication. I am in charge of the layouts of all the pages, but the page editors are in charge of creating the page they want. Through the process of making the newspaper, I edit and approve each page in order to ensure that Rampage is consistent and appealing in design.
To make our newspaper, we use InDesign, and as the former Focus Editor, that is my expertise! Since Kaiya is not fluent in InDesign, I am in charge of the layout, fonts, and other visuals while Kaiya oversees all the articles and text.
We might be in charge of Rampage, but we wouldn’t be able to do anything without the hard work of our whole staff. Our staff writers and editors write articles, take pictures, conduct interviews and so much more. Publication would be impossible if we didn’t all work together!
