Rams choose compassion

Students filled the campus with colorful balloons on their backpacks and in their hands with positive and motivational messages on them to make other people’s days.
ASBL’s Rams of Renaissance committee coordinated Kindness Week from Nov. 5-9 to spread positivity and promote kindness to students and staff.
This year, the committee decided to add new activities to create more interactions between students. Each of the new activities had their own take to bring more recognition for Kindness week.
“We wanted to explore more opportunities to reach out to a wider range of students,” Renaissance Commissioner Senior Frences Der said. “We made these events more interesting to increase participation and spark new interests to make the week a little more special.”
On Tuesday, ASBL led their first activity, Cookiesgiving, which gave students a chance to see how much they knew their friend by asking them compatibility questions. If they passed the test, the two friends would win a cookie.
As for the Wishing Well on Wednesday, students could send in their wishes to ASBL, and then at random, ASBL would grant some that were reasonable and appropriate, such as Instagram shoutouts and snacks.
“Although I only gained one follower, I am still grateful that my wish was granted,” Senior Alvin Huang said. “I would definitely do the wishing well again, it’s pretty fun and can make someone’s day.”
Following the Wishing Well, students at the Balloon Workshop on Thursday wrote positive messages on balloons and tied them on their backpacks or held them for others around campus to see.
For the final day of Kindness Week, in the activity of You’re a Star, students received starbursts when they wrote something that they were grateful for in their lives on the ground. The activity also gave students a chance to share their creativity with calligraphy, drawings and different combinations of colors.
