Students travel back in time to follow fashion trends

The 1990s style is a perfect look for students who are willing to wear eye-catching outfits inspired by pop culture and music idols with unique styles.
Junior Lexi Speakes wants to begin incorporating popular trends from the past and believes that every student can pull off a 1990s look.
“1990s clothing trends should definitely make a complete comeback,” Speakes said. “The style is so unique and fun for everyone to enjoy.”
As for the top and bottom, checkers and stripes were very popular clothing patterns, especially for shirts and skirts.
A certain type of jeans now known as mom jeans were also trendy during this period of time and could pair with many different styles of tops.
People loved to wear overalls and sometimes only wore one strap on the shoulder.
Chunky dad sneakers and Vans shoes with floral designs were popular. Some trending accessories included fanny packs, chokers and cat-eye glasses.
Speakes’s favorite clothing items from this time period are bodysuits and scrunchies. To shop for this style, PacSun, Brandy Melville and Garage would be the best brands for the ideal outfit.
She prefers the 1990s style over any other decade due to its pretty color scheme and distinct patterns.

Following the clothing trends from the 2000s requires a distinct style that separates fashion from other time periods. Britney Spears’ videos and the TV show “Lizzie McGuire” inspired clothing trends during this time.
“Fashion in the 2000s was important since everyone looked for their own sense of style,” Freshman Annie Wong said. “Similar to now, there were typical trends that caught on, but like us students, people branched out and tried to discover what they loved to wear.”
Wong decided to recreate the ideal 2000s look. For tops, solid colors and clothing with largely printed labels on them were popular, especially with brands like PINK.
As for bottoms, people wore flared jeans and skirts with simple patterns. Many wore denim jackets and cardigans to match with the top and bottom.
Shoes, like knee-high boots and Converse, kicked off the look. Scrunchies, high socks and hair clips were popular accessories.
Wong’s store suggestions for 2000s clothing are Hollister, Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters and PacSun.
She would love to see a comeback of this style in particular since the trends between then and now did not have a drastic change.

Hypebeast clothing items are currently increasing in popularity as people now top outfits with bucket hats and style them with name brand shoes. Sophomore Justin Wang likes to stay up to date with the latest fashion trends.
“I really like the hypebeast clothing trends,” Wang said. “A lot of people say it’s only expensive because of the name behind the brand, but the quality is what matters most. As long as the brand is expensive for a good reason, it’s okay.”
Shirts with simple designs are popular as the ideal top. Jackets such as windbreakers and bombers can pair easily with the top.
People also frequently wear hoodies from the brands Anti Social Social Club and Supreme.
To spice up the outfit, one can wear accessories like Clubmaster glasses or carry Hydro Flasks. Many like to wear Adidas Ultraboost or Old Skool Vans shoes to complete the look. Some students also enjoy customizing their shoes to add a personal touch to their outfit.
Some of Wang’s favorite trends include oversized T-shirts with long sleeves, shirts with rose embroidery and words written on sleeves. His go-to brands are Zara, Forever 21 and Supreme.
He likes to wear colors that compliment each other, such as white and black. Sometimes, he likes clothes with a little color and shoes that stand out.
