This year, Link Leaders have the option of taking a Link Crew Leadership extracurricular class taught by Link Crew Coordinator Mr. Nate Slaymaker.
“I wanted to give it a try,” Junior Chloe Tran said. “There’s a lot of benefits of having the Link Leaders more involved with the freshmen instead of seeing them for the first grading period [and] that being it.”
Mr. Slaymaker plans to follow the curriculum from the company in charge of the Link Crew program, The Boomerang Project, and adapt it to fit the school.
The new class will aim to enhance and improve the Link Crew program of integrating freshman into campus and bringing out the leadership qualities of the members and those they interact with.
“I really love the Link Crew program,” Mr. Slaymaker said. “I think this Link Crew class is going to facilitate both of those purposes really well. The Link Crew class would be successful if it manages to accomplish those things.”
By improving and doing more of the core Link Crew program, the class will focus on learning about leadership, project management, organization and personal development.
He wants to prepare the students to become future leaders in their communities and workplaces.
Mr. Slaymaker hopes his Link students will be people that others will look up to in their own professions or daily lives and that they will have the skills to be successful in their future endeavors.
For the Link Crew Leadership class, he also hopes to add more periods.
While he took every student interested in the class this year, he plans to be more selective in the application process as the demand grows.
