Recently, the Board of Education voted 4-1 not to renew Superintendent Kathy Perini’s contract at their meeting on March 21.
Students, alumni, staff and community members are calling for the Board to reconsider their decision regarding Perini. There have been multiple social media campaigns including platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to rally support for their cause.
“I really do feel as if the community was blindsided by this decision,” Senior Peter Ly said. “As one of the last classes to have her as a principal at Emperor, I’ve seen Ms. Perini serve as a role model not only to her students, but also to administrators and other people in the field of public education.”
The Board called special meetings on April 4 and 10 to allow community members to voice their thoughts on the matter. Although they convened to closed session after public comment to discuss the potential courses of action, no agreement was reached at either meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for April 18 at 7 p.m. in the TCHS Media Center.
