Parents, TCUSD staff and students attended the Board of Education meeting on April 10, which was convened to discuss Superintendent Kathy Perini’s contract in public comment and closed session. Speakers during public comment included teachers Jessica Goold, Marta Bourjeili and Michael Kidd, as well as ASBL vice president Sydney Huang and former Board member John Pomeroy.
The Board voted 4-1 not to extend Ms. Perini’s contract in their March 21 meeting, and have only addressed their decision in a statement on March 23.
Ms. Perini’s contract will end in June, as it was signed three years ago after her one year term ended in 2015. The board still has several options, including extending the existing contract, ending the contract and hiring a new superintendent, or creating a new contract with Ms. Perini.
The next meeting will be a regular meeting held at 6 p.m. on April 18 at the TCHS media center. According to the posted agenda, public comment will be allowed at the start of the meeting and immediately before the Board adjourns to closed session. Closed session will include a “public employee performance evaluation” regarding the superintendent.
