When filling out one’s holiday wish list one may wonder, should I ask for a iPhone 8 or the iPhone X? This has been the debate of this year’s holiday season.
While both phones have relatively similar features, there are me striking differences that may cause people to find themselves between a rock and a hard place.
The iPhone 8 sticks to the old-fashioned, well loved look and features of its predecestor, the iPhone 7 which lacks the headphone jack and interative home button that previous iPhones in the lineup have had. Apple has chosen to stick with the normal OLED screen and maintained its lightning charging port.
The 8 continues to use the Touch ID function, which allows users to unlock their phone solely with their fingerprint. One significant feature that may lead consumers to purchase the iPhone 8 is the price point of $699 for 64GB and $849 for 256GB. For those who wish to have a bigger screen, Apple has the iPhone 8 Plus which increases the size from 5.45 x 2.65 x 0.29 in to 6.28 x 3.07 x 0.32 in.
Sophomore Aaron Sou, an avid Apple user, enjoys the return of the Touch ID but still notices there are some lingering flaws in the system.
“Touch ID has good security program both centered on measure and sensor,” Sou said. “I’ve noticed you could only use it with your fingertip if it’s completely dry… if it’s wet, it will not be able to unlock.”
In contrast, the new and revolutionary iPhone X has completely strayed from the traditional image of the iPhone X. The newest addition to the iPhone family has been completely revamped and now includes the much anticipated and Face ID, which allows users to unlock their phone simply by looking at it and allows them to use the completely new feature of Animoji.
Another completely innovative feature is the new LED screen that dramatically changes the screen. However with the new additions comes with a heftier price tag, $999 for 64GB and $1,149 for 256GB. Currently, Apple has yet to release a larger version but there is word that there is an iPhone X Plus design in works for the future.
Junior Richard Fang recently bought the iPhone X and savors the benefits of the newest addition to the iPhone lineup.
“I was really excited to get this new iPhone,” Fang said. “I’ve been anticipating for Apple to release a phone with many new features that represent the futuristic view of technology. I feel like Apple has really upped their game and I can’t wait to see the next iPhone.”
While there are innovative changes, there are certain features that are consistent in both. Both phones have extremely similar battery life, performance, photography and wireless charging. The standing difference between the two is simply the flashy, new design.
