High school is a stepping stone in your future. It is a tool to help you mature and find your inner self.
High school is not a place where you go and study until your hair falls off or until your eyeballs bleed. It is about enjoying Lauterbach’s dank memes, dressing up in your pjs for spirit week, going to events to see how hard your classmates work on getting that perfect routine, enjoying a good run at Little Park early in the mornings on Saturdays or even playing an instrument for others to enjoy.
For the most part. I really did not know what to expect, I was just one of those average high school students just looking to get by. But I quickly realized that high school was nor a place to be like everyone else.
I am proud to say that I have reaped the best benefits of high school. Yes, there were certain days where I was not 100% and yes there were days where I felt on top of the world. It is about making the most out of your experiences and how you treasure those memories forever.
Do not worry about not getting into that AP class you wanted or getting that cabinet position for that club you have been dreaming about for forever. High school is so much more than that.
As an underclassmen I was really shy and nervous about talking to other people. I always stayed in my own clique making sure never to wander off, but sometimes getting lost allows you to discover new things, things that you would have never found if you stayed put.
I was a person who hated to be in pictures because I felt insecure about my body and the way I acted and talked. I always kept my mouth shut during class and always feared talking to people I did not know. Joining clubs and trying out new things helped me become a more sociable person and I honestly don’t regret a single moment during my high school career, not one second of it. Ja feel me?
A big part of my high school experience was definitely Rampage. TBH when I first got a slip saying that I should try out for Rampage I thought to myself, who the heck would recommend such a amateur writer for something so spectacular? It felt like just yesterday that I got an F on one of my essays in Ms. Gaffney’s class. Sigh, but then I got in and I was like #blessup.
Jokes aside, Rampage opened my eyes to all the wonderful people TCHS had, students, teachers and staff alike. Rampage made me a more open person. It was a place for me to escape the sad life of school and have a good laugh.
Four years later and four years gone, I learned to grow up and be myself, because everyone slays in their own way. You do you and forget the haters for talking smack about you or drag you down.
Just enjoy high school because after all, we are just human beans.
