Junior Kyle Mac was pleasantly surprised after receiving a notice from the library regarding a missing book that he had already paid for. During the first six weeks of school, the new library staff, Media Technician Ms. Anne Kosanovich and IRC Specialist Ms. Joanne Wang, discovered a number of books previously declared lost or missing.
“It felt pretty good knowing that I didn’t actually lose my book,” Mac said. “I just had to turn in my receipt and I got a full refund.”
After registration, the staff began organizing the library and dealing with a number of issues regarding textbooks. Ms. Kosanovich and Ms. Wang found out that in prior years, employees did not scan all books correctly, and charged students for mistakes. From early on in the year, one of their first priorities was to fix this ongoing issue, and they have found more than 50 books so far.
“We are making a lot of changes this year,” Ms. Kosanovich said. “We want to get the textbook situation figured out.”
In order to resolve the issue of missing textbooks, student aides are rescanning every single textbook and class set of reading books, ensuring that all loose ends are tied up before the year ends.
Students and their parents who have doubts about missing books are allowed to go to the back of the library and look for themselves.
