Since arriving from China a year ago, Junior twin sisters Nancy and Vickie Liu have fused American and Chinese fashion into a style that they are now proud to be able to express.
Rampage: Where do you get your clothes from?
N. Liu: Most of our clothes are from China.
V. Liu: We either buy them when we go back to visit or our parents bring them back.
Rampage: What’s the difference between American and Chinese fashion?
V. Liu: The clothes in China are more girly and have more lace. I’m not fully adapted to American culture yet.
N. Liu: We do shop at Forever 21 sometimes. There’s a lot of cat-patterned clothes in China but not that many here.
Rampage: How has your style changed?
V. Liu: In China, I would wear cuter clothes with animals on them. However, here, I dress in a more mature way.
Rampage: What do you think about wearing Chinese clothes in America?
V. Liu: Everybody is different in their own way!
Rampage: In China, most schools require students to wear uniforms. How do you feel about not having to wear uniforms?
V. Liu: Uniforms don’t allow students to express their style. You can only wear what you want if you go to university or a school without uniforms. I like being able to express my style here.
Rampage: How do you pick out what to wear?
N. Liu: My sister usually picks my outfits for me! It’s one of the good things about having a twin.
V. Liu: I pick clothes based on weather and how cute they are. I like clothes with animals on them. I also like polka dots and light colors.
