It’s nice to hear a compliment every once in a while about one’s appearance. However, if a woman receives a provocative whistle from someone down the street, she becomes the protagonist of an everyday horror story.
Such a discomforting thought is the work of catcalling, or street harassment. On a daily basis, women are subjected to this unruly behavior in public.
When a lady is catcalled, she is prone to vulnerability with little to no options left. Phrases such as “God bless you” and “Hey baby, smile” are suddenly replaced with swear words and hostility if the victim ignores the harasser.
Catcalling is not a joke, and to treat it as such will not only mar your sensibility, but your sense of humor.
203 female students participated in a Rampage poll about the average number of girls who have been catcalled before and were asked if they considered the experience complimentary.
