Readers can check off must-have novels from their wish lists in the Senate Room and in the Senior Circle for our first annual book fair from Oct. 20-22.
If the school is able to sell $1000 worth of merchandise at the fair, the library will get 20% of the revenue back in the form of book credit, which Librarian Ms. Margo Butera will use to purchase more books for students to borrow.
Thanks to marketing contributions from Small Business ROP Teacher Kim Allen and her students, PTSA volunteers will also hand out a brownie or cake pop with each $10 purchase, and a DJ will play music at lunch on Oct. 20 as well as during parent-teacher conference night on Oct. 21.
“For my classes to get involved gives them an opportunity to get out of the textbook and do hands-on learning,” Ms. Allen said. “They can try out their ideas and see what works.”
Author Ms. Moro Rogers will sign purchased copies of her first graphic novel “City in the Desert” in the quad. Ms. Rogers previously did storyboarding for animation studios before beginning to create her own graphic novels. Asian films such as “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Princess Mononoke” influence her works.
After she saw the success of Oak Avenue’s book fairs, Ms. Butera wanted to have one here at the high school. She hopes the debut book fair will be successful so that there can be another one this school year.
“I hope people will have a good time,” Ms. Butera said. “They will be inspired to take that busy time out of their day to enjoy a book.”
On Oct. 20 and Oct. 21, the fair is open all day and at parent-teacher conferences. It will be open until the end of lunch on Oct. 22. For updates on the fair, follow @tchsbookfair on Instagram and use the hashtag #tchsbookfair to track its festivities.
