The start of autumn welcomes the return of pumpkin spice. With the wide variety of pumpkin spice products now on the market, there were several that stood out to me.
Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte
The Pumpkin Spice Latte started the pumpkin spice revolution. After observing a staggering amount of people order it with content faces, I finally decided to try it for myself.
My skepticism of the latte had long kept me from sampling it until the aroma of spices caught my attention. Once I received the drink I was shocked by how good the blend actually tasted. Every sip was like drinking pumpkin pie and coffee at the same time. In my opinion, it was a nice twist to the traditional taste. Soon I was just taking gulps, allowing the sweet liquid to radiate a nice warmth that spread all over. However, the latte is more of an acquired taste since it can end up being too sweet depending on how you order it. This seasonal favorite is now what I will crave for before it gets replaced by a peppermint mocha.
Pumpkin Spice Pop-Tarts
The Pumpkin Spice Pop-Tart was by far the most unappetizing item I tried. The excessively sweet mixture of frosting and filling made me almost welcome the bland tasting crust. I had the reoccurring urge to spit out the tart, but egged myself on to finish it. While one may expect to see the same consistency that pumpkin texture has, the filling was more like a deep orange goo. I found that this overpowering mixture of the frosting and pumpkin goo left a chemical aftertaste and a need for milk. The Pop-Tart had an unoriginal taste and gave off a strongly artificial flavor.
Pumpkin Spice Oreos
Oreos offer many peculiar flavors including a limited edition pumpkin spice Oreo, which I was overjoyed to try. Once my mother placed the opened package before me, my eyes were attracted to the bold contrasting colors of a deep orange and a toasted white. As I took the first bite, the cookie immediately emitted a light scent of vanilla and pumpkin. The taste was heavenly, filled with a creamy paste and a hint of cinnamon that went well with the vanilla cookie. Even eating just the frosting, the nice smooth taste of pumpkin tingles your taste buds.
Pumpkin Spice (Pie) Frozen Yogurt
Yogurtland begins this time of the year by offering their famous Pumpkin Pie Frozen Yogurt. Once dispensed from the machine, the frozen yogurt had a nice smooth texture and consistency, not to mention the lovely shade of light orange. The yogurt was a perfect blend of pumpkin puree and crème with a hint of spice. This del
icious treat caught the essence of pumpkin pie really well without going overboard and ruining the taste. I definitely recommend a stop at your local Yogurtland to enjoy this treat for yourself.
