Chef’s Coffee Shop welcomes students to stop by and have a refreshing breakfast to kick off the weekend.
Since a massive tree dominates the storefront and blocks out the name, it’s really easy to miss the restaurant. However, I was really glad that I found it and have gone back every week since and become a regular.
When my family and I walked into the shop, we noticed a large cow statue at the door. The interior of the restaurant had a very cozy, homey feeling.
The thick scent of pies and sizzling bacon wafted through the air. The walls were wood planks and the floor was covered in a plush carpet. The majority of the seats in the restaurant were cozy little booths, and the restaurant hummed with the chatter of people barely waking up.
We stood in the middle of the restaurant for a while, because the hostess didn’t notice us until about ten minutes after we came in. At first, we were rather annoyed at the slow service. When we were seated, I felt that the seats were a little cramped, but comfortable.
Once the waitress took our orders, the service picked up speed. She was really friendly and checked in with us several times throughout the meal to see if everything was okay, even though the restaurant was pretty full. She refilled my coffee a lot—at least five times throughout the meal, making sure that my mug was always full. When we got our menus, I saw that the prices were very low; virtually everything was under $10.
I ordered blueberry pancakes since I was saving my appetite and it was the reasonable price of $7.25. However, when I got my pancakes, I was surprised by the sheer size of their portions.
It was blueberry jam wrapped with massive pancakes to form three fat burritos thicker than my wrist and topped with whipped cream. The jam wasn’t too sweet and the pancakes were thicker than average. They had a nice thin crisp on the outside but a fluffy and buttery center. It was so good that I didn’t even need to drown them in syrup like I usually do with other pancakes.
If you don’t like pancakes or waffles, the menu is filled with other savory and hearty dishes. Since he wasn’t in the mood for sweets, my brother ordered a breakfast combo. The combo included several strips of crispy bacon, eggs, and two fluffy biscuits served with a hearty breakfast gravy.
It took a long time to be served, but I thought it was well worth it. Besides the slow pace, the service was decent; everyone smiled at us and made us feel welcome.
This restaurant also provides discounts for people with a RAMS card, making it easy to support the school and enjoy great food.
