Tie your outfit together with cute bows

With summer just around the corner, what better way to keep hair out of your face than with a cute and fashionable hair bow? Here are a few easy and affordable do it yourself bows with materials that are available.

Scarf Bow
Materials
Long scarf
Small hair ties

For this bow, it’s better to use a thin and long scarf. First, wrap the scarf around your head  beginning at the base of your neck. With the two ends of your scarf, pull one end so that it is three times the length of the shorter side. Using a small elastic, tie the base of the scarf so that you have the head size secure. You should have a circle with two uneven bunny like “ears” at the top. Take the scarf off and with the longer piece, start folding it over itself around three times, until it reaches the base of the circle. You should have something resembling a small rectangle. How wide you fold depends on how large you want the bow to be. Using another hair elastic, loop it once around your rectangle piece so that it doesn’t come undone. Taking the smaller piece, wrap it around the middle of your rectangle piece so that it covers the elastic, tucking the end into your first elastic at the base of the circle. This bow is perfect for bad hair days, and a comfortable way to utilize scarves in your spring and summer wardrobe.

Shirt Bow Crown
Materials
Old t-shirt
Glue gun
Scissors

With an old patterned t-shirt, preferably of a stiffer material, cut off the sleeves, neckline and along the side seam. Open up your large rectangle of fabric and along the length, cut two thick strips, about two inches each in width. Take the two strips and measure the both around your head, cutting off any excess. Take the two strips and knot one end together. Then, take both ends and start to create a simple twist braid. When you reach the end, knot it and take both ends of the braid to glue them together. With the leftover shirt fabric, or another old patterned shirt if you prefer, use the method for creating a men’s tie bow and create miniature bows. You can make as many or as little as you want, depending on how many you want on your crown. Take the small bows, glue them down to the base of the crown, and you now have a simple and fun twist on the classic flower crown.

Men’s Tie Bow
Materials
Patterned men’s tie
Glue gun
Bobby pin
Scissors

Taking any patterned tie from your dad or brother’s closet, lay it down on a flat surface, seam side up. Take the larger and thicker end of the tie and fold both sides over itself, so that it resembles a rectangle. The width of the rectangle will determine how large your bow will be. Once you have your desired size, take your scissors and cut off the end and unfold your rectangle. You will notice that one end of your opened makeshift rectangle is slightly wider than the other. Take the slightly wider side and with your glue gun, glue down a small sliver of the side so that the width is even on both sides.
Now, take the tie and fold both sides over itself, sealing the middle with glue. Place the rectangle piece to the side, and with your leftover, skinnier piece of the tie, wrap it around the rectangle, pulling tight. This will help start to form the bow shape.
Cut off the skinnier part of the tie, wrap it around the rectangle and glue it together. Take your bobby pin and slip it through the middle of the tie. Now you have a cute and stylish bow that doesn’t require expensive material, and can be made within minutes
