FBLA Moves On to State
Members of Future Business Leaders of America arrived at Six Flags Magic Mountain on the morning of Feb. 22 and joined the 13 other schools attending the FBLA Mission Valley Sectional in a day of competition and thrills. Seniors Celene Chang, Andy Chuang, Aaron Huang, Juniors Leona Chen, Eric Gunn, Tiffanie Jie, Daniel Lin, Kevin Ou, Calvin Wang and Sophomores Alan Fong and Elle Lam received awards in individual as well as team events relating to business, such as entrepreneurship, marketing and insurance and risk management and qualified to continue to the State Competitions in April.
Cheer Places at Sharp Regionals
With pointed toes and exact timing, TCHS’s performance teams wowed the crowd at Sharp Regionals at Arcadia High School on Feb. 22. Cheer placed first in its division and won Most Spirited as well as its division’s Sweepstakes. Song placed first in their division and overall, and Pep Flags placed third in its division. Choreo placed first for performing to “Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps,” first again for “Explosions” and third for “Sheila.” They also won first overall in Sr. Lyrical. Fusion placed second for their routine. Color Guard placed first, Small Dance placed second and Drill placed third.
Camellia Festival
The 70th annual Temple City Camellia Festival attracted crowds of locals to Temple City Park from Feb. 21-23 to climb into dizzying rides, play booth games and watch the Camellia Parade. Dragonflicks produced a promotional float for “Beauty and the Beast” and American Cancer Society won an Animation Award for their “Story of our Fight” float, which featured a knight fighting a dragon.
Rampage Places at ELAJEA
Scholar journalists gave a thundering ovation in Schurr High School’s auditorium as students came forward to accept their awards for East Los Angeles Journalism Education Association write-off on Feb. 22. Junior Jeffrey Li placed first in Editorial Writing. Seniors Jonathan Aguilar placed second in Sports Writing, Sabrina Chu placed third in Photography, Adrian Dang placed fifth in Feature Writing and Peggy Lu placed eighth in News Writing. Sophomore April Zhou placed fourth and Senior Annie Chien placed ninth in Editorial Cartoons. The overall staff placed fourth in Newspaper Sweepstakes.
