Since Assistant Principal Aaron Chang’s arrival on campus, one question has wracked the minds of TCHS students. Mr. Chang worked with Rampage this issue in order to solve the mystery: Who is this man behind the shades and bowtie?
Q: What are your plans for TCHS?
A: My plan is just to get to know the Temple City culture. I want to help support the students and teachers in any way I can, and to give them the opportunity to grow, not only academically, but also socially and economically
Q: Do you read Rampage?
A: I do read Rampage, probably more online, and I’ve been trying to give it a little bit more exposure on the school website by using their photographs. I usually skim through the articles to see what’s interesting.
Q: Are you working with any other websites?
A: I’m on the TCHS website, trying to work on that – whether that’s cleaning up or adding content. I’ve added the career office page on the front page, as well as Rampage’s pictures and the Ram Report. I also started the TCHS Facebook and Twitter page, and I’ve tried to connect with all the organizations such as Rampage, the Alumni Organization, the city and the Sheriff’s station. I’m trying to connect with all these different groups through that, just to be able to help communicate, get information out and connect people.
Q: What can you tell us about your preference of bowties and shades?
A: I was once told that as long as you exude confidence, that’s all that matters, it’s always been that way. I went to art school, where people kind of do their own thing. I don’t know, I’m not that fashionable, but I like to be unique in my own little way or another. The shades are more of what I use when I’m running or cycling.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: In my free time, I try to hang out with my dogs and exercise when I can. I’m going to enroll in another guitar building class next year. I want to learn how to make a specific model of guitar, I believe it’s a Torres’ classical guitar. So I’m going to learn how to make the rosette, which is the intricate part around the sound hole, and I’m going to work with that specific sort of bracing underneath the soundboard. I’ll get to make all the intricate designs on maybe the headstock that are going to be carved in, so I’m looking forward to that.
Q: What’s your favorite animal?
A: Right now, probably dogs are my favorite. Currently, I have three dogs at my house. We’re fostering one for a friend, we have a little Chihuahua and we also adopted a little Border Collie.
Q: What is your favorite sport?
A: I like playing ice hockey the most right now. I have my own adult league, and I play with people that I’ve been with for several years now. It’s a lot of fun. It’s really good exercise.
Q: Have you always liked ice hockey?
A: You know, I started getting into ice hockey in high school. My brother went to Boston University, and he took me to my first ice hockey game, a Ducks game, and I got into that. And then, in college, I learned that we had a club hockey team. We didn’t really have a coach or practice time, we just kind of went out there and played. I’m not that great, I didn’t really have any formal training. I just kind of learned by doing and following. I have a lot of fun on my team, that’s what’s most important.
Q: What talent of yours do you value most?
A: I’d say I value my woodworking skills. I enjoy that a lot, and I seem to be somewhat professional at that.
Q: What’s your favorite music genre?
A: Oh, that’s a tough question. I like to listen to all sorts of things. I don’t mind listening to pop and I don’t mind listening to country. I’m kind of hooked on the acoustic channel on FM radio. I like classical music as well. I mean, just like with food, I like to do all sorts of different things. I feel like if I stick with one, it gets kind of boring. I like to change it up.
