New Year’s Resolutions are not easy to follow through with, but they certainly do not have to be hard. It’s a lot easier to achieve them if you can keep track of specific goals easily. With these handy apps, your resolutions can be met with much less trouble.
Exercise
Keeping track of exercise is another difficulty that many face, causing some to be discouraged. Take advantage of these apps that will help you obtain statistics and reach goals.
RunKeeper (iPhone and Android)
Tracking your exercise is painless with RunKeeper, the app that utilizes a GPS to give you routes and accurate statistics for pace, distance and time. View your history, personal bests and progress, and follow guides to meet your goal. In addition, you can control your music and measure your heart rate all in the same app.
Moves (iPhone and Android)
With Moves, tracking your movements is automatic. It records steps, time and calories. The app runs in the background as you exercise, whether you are jogging a mile or simply walking to school. It can also tell the difference between driving a car and riding a bike. However, this app costs $2.99.
Dieting
It’s not easy to stay committed to healthy eating, but plenty of apps are available to keep track of what you eat.
Nutrino (iPhone, coming soon to Android)
This app acts as your personal nutritionist, allowing you to set your own dietary preferences and goals. It plans your meals based on your habits and lifestyle, and sums up your daily calorie, protein, fiber and fat consumption. You can access a large number of recipes, including vegetarian ones, and even learn about nutrition.
Calorie Counter–MyFitnessPal (iPhone and Android)
With emphasis on counting calories, MyFitnessPal’s app has over three million foods in their database to help you create a personalized diet plan. It also counts the other major nutrients, including fat, protein, carbs, sugar, fiber and cholesterol. Make custom foods and exercises, and calculate your own recipes. You can even track your progress and measurements.
Scheduling
Ditch the bland calendar app on your phone and track your schedule with these apps.
Tempo (iPhone)
As an app very focused on social events, Tempo allows you to access the contacts in an event by simply tapping on the event. In addition to being able to reach people quickly, you can also easily find the location, directions, parking and drive time for an event, obtain your flight status, and send a text or email to people when you are running late. It can also sync iCal and Google Calendar.
Sunrise (iPhone, coming soon on Android)
With a clean and simple design, Sunrise is easy to navigate. Its design may seem similar to Apple’s iCal, but its features surpass iCal a great deal. It has time zone support and Google Maps integration, and you can add an event by using key words, like “doctor’s appointment tomorrow at 11am.” Like Tempo, it is compatible with iCal and Google Calendar.
DigiCal Calendar & Widgets (Android)
Best known for having the right balance between appearance and practicality, DigiCal is a great example of a multifunctional calendar for busy people. Different widgets for your home screen are available for easy access to your schedule, and you can customize the theme of the calendar. You can also sync this calendar with others, check the weather or plan your route with Google Now integrated. Plus, there’s a handy smart action bar that can edit, move, copy, paste and delete events easily.
