Senior Cheyenne Parker and Junior Daniela Leon claimed first place with their acoustic Miley Cyrus medley at the Dragonflicks’ ninth annual talent show, “Talent, Inc.” on Nov. 5 in Rm. 601.
Parker, Leon and 22 other students competed for the prize of $100, showcasing their talents in front of judges Math teacher Ms. Kristi Ferntheil, English teacher Ms. Elena Li and History teacher Mr. Anthony Russell. Both Parker and Leon sang while Leon played the guitar to Cyrus’ older songs such as “Seven Things,” “Can’t Be Tamed” and “The Climb.”
“We were going to sing ‘Wrecking Ball,’” Parker said. “But then we switched to her older songs so that we could show how her music was before she started going wild.”
The girls had participated in the show with a mash-up the previous year, and were particularly excited to have won with one this year.
“There were only three places, but we could have given out ten. It was hard to choose a winner,” Ms. Ferntheil said. “The girls who got first place, I thought their harmonies were super tight, and overall everyone was well-prepared.”
In second place was Senior Mario Garcia, who sung “Wild World” by Cat Stevens, and Senior Kitty Tereszczuk came in third with her performance of “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” made famous by Barbra Streisand in “Funny Girl.”
This year, Seniors Kensey Ho and Chris Pan emceed the show, and Dragonflicks chose “Monsters, Inc.,” as their theme. They decorated the stage with big batteries and the walls with drawn doors and sold Mike and Sully cupcakes at the concession stand.
Other performances included a dance number by Senior Tiffany Gong to “Only Wanna Give it to You” by ElleVarner, a rendition of “Secrets” by One Republic performed by Seniors Marshall Tang on the piano and Melody Wang on the violin and an original song titled “Just You,” performed by Garcia and Senior Joshua Juarez.
