Over the summer, brown boxes and packing crates dotted the Media Center as construction began on the expanded computer lab. The lab is outfitted with new computers, tables, chairs, Eno boards, projectors and wires, purchased with an anonymous businessman’s $252,876 contribution from February.
The 36 new PC computers cost $75,707 and took the summer to install. The improved lab will be open for student’s use beginning Oct. 7.
“The computer lab will still take another one to two weeks before I can get it up and running,” Instructional Technology Specialist Ms. Marlo Antonio said. “I am in the process of making sure all programs and software are installed, working and upgraded. I am also testing the functionality of the computers.”
Students who need to do computer related homework, research or print can still go to the older Mac lab located behind the new computer lab. Ms. Antonio hopes that having PCs will make the lab more accessible to all students.
“There’s more computer space in the lab now, and two classes can use the lab at the same time,” Ms. Antonio said. “I’m sure it will help teachers and students with scheduling projects and transitioning to the Common Core.”
