Senior Awards Breakfast
Applause broke out as seniors walked up to accept awards and certificates of recognition. The Senior Breakfast began at 7:30 a.m. in the gym and all parents were welcome to join. A representative from each department gave Outstanding Achievement awards to students who excelled in fields such as Performing Arts and English.
California Scholastic Federation head Ms. Nancy Bulgin and National Honor Society head Ms. Judy Graunke honored members of both organizations with cords, and Peer Facilitators and Link Crew Coordinators gave Peer Listeners and Link Crew Leaders certificates. At the end, Principal Mary Jo Fosselman-King announced this year’s valedictorian, Yinting Huang, and salutatorians, Eric Lin and Florence Liu.
C.I.F. Sports Results
Hard work and dedication paid off as this year’s Boys and Girls Tennis, Boys Cross Country, Boys Basketball, Softball and Football went to C.I.F.
At Estancia High School, Junior Austin Situ ran the mile event, Junior Vivian Yu, Sophomores Benjamin Gray and Greta Xiong went for pole vault, and Gray also competed in the triple jump event. Senior Felix Awujo participated in the long jump.
Senior Rickey Han and Junior Gabriella Chan attended for discus, and Chan also partipated in the shot put event. For swim, at Riverside Community College, Seniors Samantha Lee and Jessica Wada, Sophomore Susan Su and Freshman Bethany Hau swam the 200 free relay.
Spirit Week
Students dressed up and filled the quad during break last week to show school spirit and gain points for their class. Students also participated in games and activities during lunch to earn more points.
The theme for Spirit Week was “Pokémon” and on Monday, students decked out in patriotic colors. Then, students dressed up in floral and green clothing on Tuesday, pajamas on Wednesday and swimwear on Thursday.
Finally, on Friday, Spirit Week concluded with the Renaissance Assembly. Seniors wore their college gear while underclassmen wore their class colors and class t-shirts.
Senior Florence Liu won the competition for “Most Spirited,” dressing up for each day of the event. The prize for the competition was a pair of tickets to a Cody Simpson concert.
Dodgeball Tournament
Cheers and applause erupt as the last defending player catches the ball. The 2013 Dodgeball Tournament was held in the gym on June 7 at 5 p.m. Teams played double elimination rounds and were placed in either the winning bracket or the losing bracket based on their game results. The last teams standing were the Pride of Temple City, representing band, and the Average Joes playing for the soccer teams. In the end, the Average Joes won the jackpot prize of $600.
