Cheng crowned Miss Temple City

Eight junior girls had their “One in a Million” moments on stage at St. Luke’s Parish Hall on June 10 during the 45th Annual Miss Temple City Ambassador Pageant. Former Miss TC Senior Brittany Bravo crowned Emily Cheng as the winner, and the judges named Betty Wang as the first runner-up and Anna Ger as the second.

After the girls kicked off the pageant with a dance performance to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” they moved onto the platform speeches, where they delivered speeches addressing problems within the city. Some participants, such as Cheng, talked about social challenges such as suicide and bullying, while Esther Kao and Yvonne Lam spoke about beautifying the city and healthy living, respectively.

A parade followed the platform speeches when the contestants assumed a fictional or real character that represented them. Ger dressed up as Wendy Darling from Disney’s “Peter Pan,” and Vivian Wang assumed the character of Princess Bubblegum from “Adventure Time.” Sabrina Fang came on stage as Michelangelo from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” while Betty Wang chose First Lady Michelle Obama for her part.

The participants then moved on to the talent portion of the show, where they wowed the judges with a wide range of talents, which included speed drawing, baton twirling and storytelling. Phoebe Fang and Sabrina Fang compiled videos to entertain the audience, while Ger and Vivian Wang sang.

In the formal walks, the contestants donned their evening gowns and demonstrated elegance and poise as MC Daryl Topalian conducted a Q&A session. The judges made the final decision based off performance, as well as dedication and participation in selling tickets and preparing for the event.
