The Daily Beast and Newsweek released the America’s Best High Schools 2013 list and ranked TCHS 308 out of 2,000 public schools on May 6.
The Daily Beast ranked high schools based on student preparedness for college. Officials analyzed factors such as graduation rates, participation in Advanced Placement courses, International Baccalaureate programs and Advanced International Certificate of Education courses and rate of acceptance into a two or four-year university. All public schools in the U.S. were eligible and out of 5,000 invitations, nearly 2,500 responded.
To break down the evaluation dynamics, 25 percent of decisions was based on four-year, on-time graduation rates, 25 percent was based on the percentage of 2012 graduates who were accepted to college and 25 percent was based on AP/IB/AICE tests per student.
The remaining 25 percent consisted of 10 percent based on average SAT or ACT scores, 10 percent based on average AP/IB/AICE exam score and five percent based on percentage of students enrolled in at least one AP/IB/AICE course.
This year, TCHS has graduation and college- bound rates of both 99 percent, while in 2012, they were 98 percent and 94 percent, respectively.
The SAT and ACT score averages also increased, from 1680 and 24 to 1702 and 25.05. However, the average AP exam score remains the same at 3.3.
