Get crafty and create one-of-a-kind phone cases

If you’re tired of having the same phone case as twenty other people, fear no more. Here are some easy do it yourself, phone cases that can be adapted for any type of phone.

Lace Phone Case
Clear or colored plain phone case
Three small squares of cloth (one plain, two lace)
Scissors
A pencil
Tape
Plastic gloves
Super glue

For this case, I used cloth from old shirts I had lying around. If you don’t have any old lace shirts, you can buy a few from garage sales. Don’t go out and specifically buy cloth from Michaels or Jo-ann Fabrics and Crafts, because that defeats the purpose of the cost effectiveness of doing it yourself.

Lay your phone case on top of your cloth and trace out a ½ inch border all around, you’ll need the extra space for the sides. Then, layer two squares of lace for a more intiricate design. I also cut out another square of white cloth as the background because I used a clear case, but you can always use a colored case instead. Tape one of the squares onto the case, line up the sides, trim off any excess and use this as a guideline for your other squares.

After making sure all three squares are the same size, put on a pair of plastic gloves and carefully, glue the background colored square first, followed by the two pieces of lace. Wait for around five minutes for it to dry and you’ll be left with this simple yet elegant design.

Rhinestone Case
Clear or colored phone case
A pair of old flower earrings
Rhinestones and fake pearls
Pointed tweezers
Cutting pliers
Scissors
Plastic gloves
Acetone
Cotton swab
Super glue or B-7000 glue

For this type of case, you can really let your imagination run wild. I took a pair of old flower earrings and gently used the pliers to break off the flower part. Then, I laid out the rhinestones and arranged them until I was happy with the design. If you’re having trouble picking up the tiny pieces, use a pair of pointed tweezers. Make sure to take a picture of your design because trust me, nothing is worse than accidentally bumping into the table and jumbling up all of those tiny pieces.

The last step is to glue everything down. I suggest gluing the larger pieces first, so you have a guide to work around. After waiting for the glue to dry for around five minutes, dip a cotton swab in acetone and gently remove the residue left behind.

And there, now you have two easy and elegant phone cases that are affordable and made with materials that you can easily find at home. When buying the rhinestones, I suggest going to a nail supply store, since they have a variety of rhinestones selling for a $1 per packet. I also suggest buying your plain cases online from Amazon or Ebay, where they are usually less than $3.
