Under the illuminating, vibrant lights, tears drop from dancers as they turn and leap on the stage, showcasing the product of choreographing, directing, producing and working hard for months. “Choreo Unsolved,” the showcase shone a spotlight on 27 completely student-managed performances by Choreo, Pep and K-Pop Dance Team on May 2 and 3 at 7:00 p.m. in room 601.
The theme was an interactive, comedic storyline interwoven with the routines surrounding a mystery about members going missing.
“Everything went into this— the girls were in charge of directing, producing, costuming, this is their show,” Choreo advisor Jenny Powell said. “I’m watching them take this on and succeeding after putting so much time and effort into making this theme come alive. This was the ultimate goal.”
Some challenges and concerns found their way into the practice room, such as the deadline for so many routines. After finalizing the choreography, the dancers worked out the stage maneuvering and lighting with TCHS Dragonflicks.
Choreo seniors, along with their team on the stage and behind the scenes, basked in the bittersweetness of one last send-off, their sobs almost overpowering the music.
“I was reluctant to have our final show together come to an end and I truly cherished every moment on the stage,” senior Choreo captain Candice Peng said. “I think the showcase was really bittersweet because although saying goodbye was heartbreaking, I felt so proud looking back at all of our accomplishments as a team throughout the entire year. It’s very challenging to say goodbye to something you hold so close to your heart.”
