Varsity girls softball won their game against San Marino by a score of 13-0 on March 5, giving the team their fourth win of the season. Their league record is now 4-0.
“We’re winning games and communicating, and as every game progresses on, we improve each and every day,” senior Melanie Platon said. “I’m pretty excited for the rest of the season because this is my senior year and I feel like we can go far.”
The team is undefeated as league champions for the past three seasons in the Rio Hondo League, and plan to continue their streak.
Boys Volleyball
Varsity boys volleyball won their match against Gabrielino High with a score of 3-0, on March 6. It was their eighth win of the season, putting their overall record at 8-6.
“I’ve been in varsity for four years, and recently our team has gotten really good and we probably have a better chance than ever at making it to CIF finals,” senior pinch server Jordan Shiau said. “The biggest struggle of the season has been playing with new teammates since it’s a learning curve, but we’re practicing a lot, learning our chemistry and getting better at playing together.”
Swim
Varsity swim, with two show matches under their belt, are optimistic about their oncoming season of league matches and swim meets. They hope to win league matches against La Cañada and San Marino, while bringing as many swimmers as possible to qualify for CIF.
“The biggest struggle is getting the motivation to work hard and put in the hours,” freshman Tobey Chow said. “But the thing is, from our first and second meet I can see good change. People are putting in the work, and I can see that people are dedicated and want to win and have the motivation so I think it’s going pretty well. The thought of making CIF as a freshman is what’s driving me right now.”
Baseball
Varsity baseball holds a league record of 3-1, and are currently in first place.
“We struggle with hitting and putting the ball in play, but since the beginning of the season it’s definitely gotten better,” senior Daniel Matta said. “We have a decent amount of consistent hitters and our pitching has gotten progressively better. Last year our season didn’t end well because we couldn’t get anything going, but this year we’re even better than we were last year.”
So far, the only league game lost by the Rams has been to La Cañada.
“The success of our season so far is very promising, since we’re first in the league right now,” junior Parker Thomas said. “Last season ended badly because we weren’t there for one another and had poor chemistry, but the team has really come together for the better, and I am extremely optimistic about this year. We have a strong team with great potential to win league and make CIF.”
