Sock Bun
A simple and easy bun that resembles one of the most classic desserts, a doughnut.
Step One – Take a sock that’s close to your hair color. For a large bun, choose a thick sock. For a smaller bun, choose a thin sock.
Step Two – Cut off the toe part and roll it until it looks like a doughnut.
Step Three – Brush your hair into a ponytail. The placement of the ponytail will determine where the center of the bun is.
Step Four – Pull your ponytail through the center of the doughnut, starting from the end.
Step Five – Roll the doughnut down to the base of the ponytail, fixing stray hairs along the way. For those with many layers, grab them and tuck them in as you roll.
Step Six – Perfect the bun by using bobby pins to tuck stray hairs away. If the sock is visible, spread hair around it. Finish with hairspray to keep it intact throughout the day.
Simplified Waterfall Braid
The classic waterfall braid with a twist.
Step One – Take the farthest section on a side of your head and split it into two.
Step Two – Twist the bottom strand over the top one and let the now-bottom strand fall. Pull on the fallen strand to keep the weaving strands tight. There should only be one strand left in your hand.
Step Three – Grab a little section of hair and add it to the one in your hand.
Step Four – Create another strand by taking a section of hair below the one you just added on.
Step Five – Twist the new strand over the previous one, and let it fall.
Step Six – Repeat steps two through four until you reach the other side of your head. Secure the hairstyle with an elastic band and bobby pins.
Curl or straighten your hair to your desire beforehand if you wish to wear this look with either curly or straight hair.
Fishtail Braid
This elegant hairstyle is pleasing to the eye.
Step One – Pull your hair into a pony tail with a clear band and part it into two sections. Brush your hair for a smooth braid or leave your hair natural for a lazy one.
Step Two – Pull a strand of hair from the outside of the left section and over the front, adding it to the right section. Do the same to the right section.
Step Three – Repeat step two until you reach the bottom. Secure the braid with an elastic band and cut the one at the top.
Tips for Guys
For those of you wishing to impress, limit the use of gel to avoid stiff or crunchy hair. Try a hair wax or pomade for a more natural, but still styled look.
