As temperatures drop, cool winds blow and clouds cover once sunny skies, students adjust to the winter season fashionably
Rainer Hsu
Completing the look with a khaki knit cardigan over a black on black outfit, adding form using a classic belt and topping it off with a silver necklace and his staple Vans, senior Rainer Hsu prepares for the winter season through his love of sweaters. Deriving inspiration from V, a member of BTS, he follows styles of Korean fashion.
“I was not always into fashion until last year when I had to listen to BTS for a class and I thought ‘Wow, those guys look cool and I want to look like them,’” Hsu said. “As an average looking person, I feel that it helps me look above average while helping my motivation, confidence and mood.”
Shopping at UNIQLO and H&M along with online searching, Hsu hopes to get into more dress pants and grow his sweater collection, while continuing his common palette of neutral colors this winter season.
Rai Xiang
With an eclectic yet vintage and classy style, freshman Rai Xiang curates her outfits by pulling items out of her closet. Pairing bootleg jeans with contrasting textures of lace and fur, she layers a lace undershirt with a black corset top and with a fur cardigan. To top it off, she clasps on her staple butterfly necklace gifted from her mom along with beaded bracelets and her pearl earrings.
she winterizes her looks by utilizing layering and jackets with fluffy accessories from beanies and ear muffs to scarves and leg warmers, gathering inspiration from Pinterest and TikToks\.
“When looking at outfit inspiration, I look at the way it’s formed and the harmony of the outfit,” Xiang said. “I try to recreate the feeling rather than looking at which clothing pieces I have that are similar.”
Going for design and quality over brand, Xiang’s closet consists of items from her mom, thrifted pieces and others from stores in malls and online. When shopping, Xiang looks at design, pattern and cut.
“Fashion has made me much more confident and personality wise, become more bubbly and extroverted,” Xiang said. “Fashion has affected my life because I like to dress to express myself and if people don’t like it, I don’t want them in my life anymore.”
