School District Blood Drive
The district office invites students, teachers and members of the community to donate blood on Nov. 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. The blood drive is by appointment only. Interested donors can sign up on the Red Cross Blood website at redcrossblood.org where they can schedule a time to donate.
The district is collaborating with SkillsUSA, TCHS Red Cross and Wings of TC to spread the word around students at the highschool. Donors must be at least 17 years old. 16-year-olds are eligible to donate only with parental consent. Donors also have to meet a weight requirement based on their height. They can find the parental consent form and height and weight requirements online through the Red Cross Blood website.
Red Cross will sponsor a scholarship if the district holds two successful blood drives.
Donors will receive a T-shirt and pair of Red Cross socks after donating. Though donors must be at least 16 years old, younger students can volunteer with the clubs by helping out at the drive to earn CSL hours. Seniors who donate blood twice will receive a red cord at graduation.
Advanced Drama Winter Play
Advanced Drama will perform an adaptation of “The Play That Goes Wrong” on Dec. 1 and 2 in Room 601.
It’s a typical whodunit situation, involving a cast of characters in a mansion and a mysterious murder case. The twist with the play is that things are supposed to go wrong. Audiences can expect to see actors forgetting lines, constantly breaking character and set pieces falling down. It’s a play within a play with lots of chaos that’s sure to leave audiences dying of laughter.
Interested viewers can purchase tickets through a member of Advanced Drama or on the ASB online website. Pre-sale tickets go for $10 per person and general admission is $15.
The play starts at 8 p.m. and is set to end near 10 p.m. There will be a snack bar where audience members can purchase coffee, tea and desserts.
There will be a roadshow on Nov. 29 prior to the premiere where students will be able to see a preview of the play during their English period.
“It’s hilarious,” said Advanced Drama teacher Ms. Gaffney. “We’ve laughed everyday during rehearsals. In fact we’re doing a “try not to laugh challenge” because it’s really hard for a corpse to stay dead when they’re breaking character every 10 seconds. It’s crazy, but it’s a fun kind of crazy.”
