New Media Center Replacement
Mr. Tim Rodriguez transferred from the Media Center to Emperor Elementary School. Ms. Ann Seitz will work in his place until a permanent replacement is hired. Additionally, Ms. Duranne Ray is on disability leave due to back problems, but for now Ms. Tracy Duhamel will work in the computer lab until Ms. Ray returns.
Former TC Student is Albright Fellow
TCHS Alumni Christine Keung Class of 2010 was selected along with 40 other young women from Wellesley College for The Madeleine Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs, a distinguished organization for potential leaders. Keung will train in the Albright Institute Winter Session for three weeks during January.
Algerian Gas Plant Attack
A terrorist group seized a remote Algerian gas plant run by Algeria’s state oil company, Norway’s Statoil and Britain’s British Petroleum on Jan. 16. The standoff ended on Jan. 21, with at least 37 hostages and 29 insurgents confirmed dead.
Three Americans hostages were killed while seven survived the crisis. The terrorist group claimed the attack was in retaliation for the recent French support for the Malian government, which is battling Islamic rebels. The militants planned to blow up the plant and take hostages to Mali.
Winter Rally
Special guest dance crew Poreotics, who won the title as America’s Best Dance Crew on season five of the television show, made an appearance and performed a routine duing the Winter Rally on Jan. 18. Students met the members of the crew, bought merchandise and got autographs during lunch.
Thunderous applause rang throughout the gym as each performing group ended their routine with a smile during the assembly. The assembly was filled with its usual school spirit cheers, dance numbers and pep performances.
