In response to Jisele Garcia’s opinion article about administrative transparency, previously published in Issue 05, Volume 68 of Rampage:
After reading “We need more transparency from administrative actions,” I wondered if that was indeed the issue. I contend that there is a solution to all that feel left in the dark regarding not knowing why a decision was made, etc.
Can you imagine if someone shared information with interminable detail about all the “hows, whys, whens, whats” that went into that decision? If you feel it is necessary information for you, ask questions, be a part of the conversation.
If you want your needs met or your questions answered you must first have the courage to open your mouth and ask the questions or express your needs. We all have a responsibility to ourselves and those around us to participate in asking our questions to get our answers.
And while I have your attention, what is the best way to deliver information to you? StudentSquare, ParentSquare, email, bulletin, smoke signals? I craft endless informational emails to students on a daily basis only to be told by more than 75% of the student body, “Oh yeah, I didn’t see that information, I don’t read my emails.” I want to make sure that I am transparent about my frustration in trying to make sure you are well informed as well as honestly wanting to know if there is a better way to deliver information. “If you want the answer–ask the question.” –Lorii Myers
