New Safety Hotline

TCUSD district office set up two new modes of contact at the start of second semester for students to voice their concerns: an email address: tchsreporting@tcusd.net and a safety hotline number: 626-548-5021.

Students can email or call to report concerns they see around campus. If there are immediate emergencies, students should contact an on-site administrator or a campus supervisor.

Response times are within 24 to 48 hours and the hotline directs students to admin who will handle each situation accordingly.

Upstairs Policy Change

Administration closed the upstairs 200 and 500 wings starting Jan. 9 with an exception for office hours and club meetings. Admin reimplemented the rule due to an excessive amount of trash upstairs and multiple students getting hit by food thrown from the balcony during lunch.

Before COVID-19, the upstairs area was also off limits as it is now. In order to practice social distancing, admin lessened restrictions after the lockdown.

“I understand the reasoning behind it because of the huge increase of fights and the lack of ability to watch over a large surface area this year,” junior Rainer Hsu said. “But it also seems like there aren’t many good spots on campus to sit at.”

Assistant Principal Elena Li sent a principal newsletter entailing the contents of the new rule the day before school resumed from winter break. In the following weeks, admin also reminded students of this policy change through the bi-weekly bulletin announcements.

Dress Code Reinforcements

Before school resumed from winter break, students and parents received an email emphasizing the current dress code.

The Safety Committee made up of parents, students and teachers revised the old dress code last school year in order to modernize it and address more of present day concerns, as they will do every year.

The revised dress code is in the 2022-2023 student handbook and mentioned in the bi-weekly bulletins. As of Feb. 10, the previous dress code is still available on the school website.

Uniform Hall Passes

Administration implemented a new hall pass starting second semester. To avoid confusion regarding students leaving the classroom, they reemphasized the 10-10 rule along with the new hall passes.

Students are not allowed out of class within the first and last 10 minutes of class unless there is an emergency. Campus supervisors can spot a recognizable hall pass to know why a student is out of class.

Admin attached wristlets to the hall passes on Feb. 7 to carry around school. Due to a delay in shipping, the wristlets arrived later than expected.

Note: Refer to the Principal Newsletters, Bi-Weekly Bulletins and Rampage Newsletter for further admin updates.
