Transitioning to winter weather means pulling sweaters and fuzzy socks for layered outfits back out of the closet. In a limited number of cold days, students have found creative ways to stay warm and show their favorite style.
To protect against the chilly weather, senior Abeni Liu prioritizes comfort through minimal outfits. She wears an all-black outfit with a turtleneck, zip-up jacket and jeans, including contrasting white Nike Court Royale 2 shoes.
Liu dresses casually with inspiration from popular trends, as long as they remain comfortable to her. While fall is her favorite season for fashion, she wears a mix of summer clothes such as tank tops year-round.
“I like that fashion gives me a way of being creative with what I have because there are so many ways to wear the same clothing piece,” Liu said. “Looking put together is a confidence booster, and I feel more prepared on the days that I spend more time planning out what to wear.”
Wearing vintage styles inspired by late ‘60s mod trends is junior Faith Perez’s favorite way to express herself. Mod includes mini skirts, bright colors or bold patterns and boots.
In winter, Perez layers tights, a black and tan plaid dress and a black coat, finishing her outfit with black boots. Her unique style strays from popular fashion as she doesn’t usually take inspiration from current trends but instead goes her own direction by following vintage trends instead.
“Music is a really big part of my life and I find myself dressing in a vintage style because I will watch interviews or see pictures of the musicians I like, and I take inspiration from them,” Perez said. “I sort of see people’s personalities a little bit better through their fashion and I really like that aspect.”
Freshman Kyle Fung appreciates how his style showcases his personality as everyone can show how they live through what they wear. His outfits consist of casual clothes with brands like Nike, Adidas or Vans.
One of his winter outfits includes a black denim jacket on top of a tan hoodie, along with black jeans and Nike Air Force 1s. Alternatively, he likes more unique pieces such as cardigans or puffer jackets to use as statement pieces.
“I often switch it up and try things that I came up with myself,” Fung said. “At the end of the day it’s important to dress the way you feel the best, so just wear whatever you like to wear even if it isn’t trendy.”
