CIF/sports updates
Seniors Joshua Park and Thomas Li and junior Kianna Le competed in cross country CIF preliminaries at Mount San Antonio College on Nov. 13.
In order to advance, Park, Li and Le needed to place in the top eight slots. Park finished the course with a time of 17:55 and placed 57th. Li completed the race with a time of 18:18 and placed 68th. For the majority of her race, Le maintained fifth place but did not finish on the last hill.
“I had about half a mile left but my legs started shaking and gave out going downhill,” Le said. “I was so close to advancing but now that my season is over, I have a lot of expectations for myself and look forward to next year.”
As the season ended, fall sports held banquets to celebrate team successes. Girls golf named freshman Kacey Ly as their Most Valuable Player and TCHS’ Hall of Fame inducted senior Nicole Yang for her performance and dedication in girls golf.
Rio Hondo League named senior Nicolas Yoon the Most Valuable Player for boys water polo.
Sophomore Taylor Yu and junior Celina Chao earned all-Rio Hondo League recognitions for girls volleyball, while senior Miah Soriano made honorable mention.
Badminton Club tournament
Sophomores Daniel Hsu and Acelin Chan won Badminton Club’s first tournament with a final score of 21-15 on Nov. 15. With teams of doubles and a bracket system, the club began the tournament in the gym during office hours and lunch on Nov. 9.
In October, Badminton Club received 20 racket donations and equipment from the San Gabriel community.
“We’re definitely going to have more tournaments in the future,” Club President sophomore William Yang said. “As of right now, we’re planning a smaller one near the holidays. It won’t be as big as this one but hopefully we’ll have as many participants as we had this time.”
