In the midst of the darkness, Rams Repertory Company lights up the stage with exuberance and lively passion. The bleak atmosphere suddenly overflows with fiery excitement as it anticipates the next scene. The stage is filled with emotion of all kinds, striking the eagerness of the audience.
For this year’s winter production, Advanced Drama will perform their rendition of “The Imaginary Invalid,” a French play originating in the 17th century.
Juniors Carter Grimaldi, Ava Espinoza and Tyler Williams will be playing the main roles of this upcoming show. The students will highlight the spirit of the drama with a blend of lively spoken plays and interludes consisting of music and dance.
Administration implemented various COVID-19 safety guidelines for this upcoming performance. All attendees, including cast members, must wear masks during the show. Audience seating will also be distanced.
“I feel like our school is pretty hardcore about COVID-19 regulations and a lot of other schools are able to perform indoors,” Espinoza said. “It’s very unfortunate that something as popular as theatre is instead being treated like a small event.”
Despite the regulations, the cast has been rehearsing during their fifth and sixth period, as well as before and after school. The show will premiere during the first week of February in the school lunch shelter and admission costs will be $10 presale and $15 at the door. In the midst of difficulties, the cast still builds their relationships with one another.
“Eventually after a while, it clicks. It’s almost as if there are these people you’ve known for a while,” Williams said. “You have this unbreakable bond between these wonderful people, and you can’t imagine what it would be like without them.”
